Making International Giving Easier

 In Allgemein

At filia, we believe that meaningful philanthropy is built on trust. Trust in feminist movements, trust in local expertise, and trust between funders and their grantee partners. For more than 25 years, filia has put this trust into practice by moving resources to feminist organizations and activists. At filia we believe that this is how one creates lasting change.

For U.S.-based foundations and corporate funders, filia offers an additional layer of confidence. We hold a valid Equivalency Determination (ED) certificate. It confirms that filia is the equivalent of a U.S. public charity for tax purposes. This simplifies international grantmaking. Because it reduces the administrative burden associated with conducting one’s own equivalency determination.

Our Equivalency Determination can be accessed through NGOsource. There U.S. funders can request filia’s current determination for their due diligence and grantmaking process.

There is more to our track record than compliance. Since 2001, filia has supported more than 600 feminist projects and organizations in over 50 countries. We publish our financial and annual reports and follow recognized transparency standards. We also use participatory grantmaking approaches that put decision-making power closer to the movements we support.

For U.S. funders looking for a transparent, experienced and trusted partner for feminist philanthropy, filia is ready to connect.

What is an Equivalency Determination

An Equivalency Determination (ED) is a formal assessment that confirms a foreign nonprofit organization is equivalent to a U.S. public charity for U.S. tax purposes. For U.S. foundations, an ED provides a recognized basis for making grants to international organizations while simplifying due diligence and reducing administrative requirements. filia holds an ED valid until December 2027.
