Project “Connect! East South West women for development”

Advanced training sessions for women’s organisations from the new EU Member States. These target the situation of women’s rights in the Global South and gender issues in development policy. The goal is to enable the organisations to bring active influence to bear on development aid of their countries. Two representatives of women’s organisations from Africa will be invited to the training sessions.

Project “Implementing a European Trauma Network – Preparations for the starting conference”

The “European Trauma Network” is an initiative of feminist NGOs from 23 EU Member States working on the subject of gender-specific violence. How can European standards in care for women and girls affected by violence be improved? This will be the topic of the forum to be held in autumn 2010 in connection with the conference organised by WAVE (Women against Violence Europe). filia is supporting the preparatory meeting in Prague.

OWEN – Mobile Akademie für Geschlechterdemokratie und Friedensförderung e.V. Berlin
Project “Women and young people as actors for peace: Best Practice und Lessons Learned from the Caucasus and Bosnia-Herzegovina”

OWEN’s Omnibus 1325 project aims to strengthen women as actors and to integrate the gender perspective into peace-building processes. Training has been provided for German and Caucasian multipliers since 2006 and 2008 also saw networking with Latin American activists (filia grant). Through visits to women’s and youth projects in Bosnia participants learn about successful model projects in a post-war society and can develop new cooperation arrangements.

Black European Women’s Council (BEWC)

BEWC is a union of black women’s rights activists from various EU Member States that works to improve recognition and visibility of black women in Europe. Its task is to conduct lobbying work for the interests of black European women at EU level. In national councils within the EU Member States, political pressure is to be built up to achieve anti-discrimination legislation from the perspective of those doubly affected as being both black and women. An International Symposium on Diversity is planned in Brussels in 2009. The council aims to build up a secretariat in Brussels by 2011, partly with EU funds.
