Why Women worldwide?

"Give women space and they can do wonders."   P. Vinnarasi Mallika, project manager DROPPS, India

Images of women – role of women – power structure

One example of every day life of women today:
In 2010 you can find this poster in the streets of Grosny, capital of Chechnya:

Left woman: I am a Chechen women and proud of it. I respect the traditions of our nation.
Right woman: And who are you? Your image is damaging our Chechen society.
This Poster tells its own tale.

In a world of change, in which people are growing ever closer to one another through globalization and international ties, the road to equality of opportunity and to a self-determined life remains both long and arduous. The women’s foundation filia was founded in 2001 to support women and girls all over the world on their journey down this road. Driven by filia’s vision the foundation supports projects which help to bring about structural change in their regions, and which highlight the skills and abilities of women and girls. In some regions the condition for women are changing for the worse – just in this moment.
filia supports projects in the regions of Central and Eastern Europe, the Global South and Germany.

The filia portrait with Dr. Vera Bloemer

Dr. Vera Bloemer, endowment contributor since 2008

What motivated you to become an endowment donor at filia?
Dr. Vera Bloemer:
I was stimulated by the statement on the website, "Those who support women change the world". I found this idea wonderful. I know from my own experience that in many situations women approach matters differently and more efficiently than men. What I liked about filia was the diversity of the projects and the international nature, and I was pleased to see how carefully filia looks at whom and what it supports, always with an eye to the change approach.

What does women’s perspective on social change mean for you? And what should this change bring about?
Dr. Vera Bloemer:
Every woman should be able to decide on her own life independently and in a spirit of self-determination, with the same opportunities, the same freedoms without any disadvantaging, whether in training, working life, the family or a life partnership. Women who experience disadvantaging need promoting so that they can have the same chances to shape their lives.
